I suppose it is to be expected that libertarian conservative gays are going to hear the usual poop-on-the-parade drivel from gays in the Leftist Hive. And so we are.
In the comments on blog after blog, the boo-birds are saying that libertarian gains in the Republican Party are an illusion. We Jewish-Nazi, Black-KKK self-haters are hoping, they say, for something that just isn’t happening.
For the most part, they persist in the lie that the political Right is a monolith, and that there is only one type of conservative: the social reactionary. This is a myth useful to the ignorant and the scared. But everything that has been happening lately proves it wrong.
There are indeed two major strains of conservatism these days: social conservative and libertarian conservative. As I have already made clear. I have also stated that the evidence over the course of this election year points to the fact that the libertarian element is vanquishing the soc-cons. It is happening quite decisively, as the latter has had to almost totally abandon its issues to achieve success — and has gone down to defeat in elections where it has failed to do this.
The poopers cite as “proof” of ongoing theocrat dominance the fact that social reactionaries have not magically evaporated. That their very continued existence must mean they are still all-powerful. But how realistic is the expectation that immediately after one election soundly repudiating them, they would, overnight, totally disappear?
They were, until recently, the most powerful coalition in the GOP. And many of them are outright fanatics. They are the closest thing we have to a Taliban. Was it ever realistic to expect they could be sent quickly into that good night?
Of course not. Get real, people. They will stick around and fight what they believe to be “the good fight” for a long, long time — most likely, for years to come.
This doesn’t mean that they will win. When conservative standardbearers like Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and Glenn Beck begin warming to gays, as they have so emphatically done (risking Talibangelical wrath to do so), the opera is over. The Fat Lady is singing.
More than ever before, gay-friendly libertarian conservatives need to do all we can to drive the stake in the monster’s heart. It lies, now, thrashing on the ground. It won’t die easily — but we can kill it.
Those on the Left, who must persist on fairy-tales in the face of reality, are making themselves look sillier by the day. The best way to defeat their lies is with the truth.
Is this all they’ve got? Well, yes, it is. Which means they are toast.
They are the real self-haters. Think of the tortured life one must live in an ever-faltering illusion. Bring on the lies. One by one, we will defeat them.
